Practice is done in intervals of a Hot Line, followed by a Cold Line to set up targets and flags in the mornings before a match as directed by a match official.

PAC American Benchrest 25 & 50 yd Target Match

(USARB Rules except as noted)


FORMAT:

  • A match will consist of 3 cards of 25 bulls.

  • One shot per bull. Each bull will carry a max of 10pt ea.

  • Max of 250 pts per card.

  • A maximum of 750 pts for a match.

  • Distance is 25 yards or 50 yards from front edge of bench. (not rifle muzzle).

 

Classes for 25yards:

1) Unlimited Class  (Club Rules)

2) Open Class

3) Heavy Varmint 

4) Light Varmint.

 

Classes for 50 yards:

1) Unlimited 

2) Open class only.

RULES:​

  • Pellets ( Air Gun diabolo style pellets only. No slugs ).

  • Calibers - .177 -.20 -.22 max.

  • Any type rifle rest is allowed.

  • (Club Rule) Air charging rifle during course of fire is allowed.

  • (Club rule) External Tethering is allowed.

  • Any sights is allowed.

  • (Club Rule) Rifle electronic triggers are allowed.

  • A class needs to have a minimum of two shooters. A single shooter may be moved to the next higher class.

USARB BENCHREST CLASSES

PAC 25 yd and 50 yd RULES

 

PAC Unlimited Class

(USRAB rules apply except as noted)

  • .177, .20 and .22 caliber air gun diabolo style pellets only are allowed. 

  • Any power level is allowed.

  • Any weight rifle is allowed.

  • Rifles using electrically actuated or powered components, or computer processors and applications are allowed; these components need not be integral to the rifle.

  • Wind flags or anemometers sensing and transmitting data to a computer device or display are allowed.

  • Front rests using electrically actuated or powered components are allowed.

  • One and two piece front or rear adjustable rests and bi-pods are allowed.

  • Scopes transmitting or receiving data from a computer device are allowed.

  • Scopes may utilize illumination.

  • Externally regulated Tethered tanks are allowed. Charging Rifles  tanks during course of fire is not allowed ( So not to disturb other shooters during course of fire). 

  • USARB scoring rules will apply except when noted otherwise by the MD.

  • Target distance will be 25 yds or 50 yds, at the discretion of the match director.

USA Open Class

(USRAB rules apply except as noted)

  • 177, .20 and .22 caliber air gun diabolo style pellets only are allowed.

  • Up to a maximum of 35 foot-pounds of energy.

  • Up to a maximum of 25 pounds total weight.

  • Rifles with electronic triggers are permitted for PAC matches.

  • Wind flags or anemometers that sense and transmit data to a computer device or display are not allowed.

  • Front rests using electrically actuated or powered components are not permitted.

  • One and two piece front or rear adjustable rests, bags and bipods are allowed.

  • Scopes transmitting or receiving data from a computer device are not permitted.

  • Scopes may utilize illumination.

  • Tethered tanks are not allowed. NO recharging during course of fire.

  • USARB scoring rules will apply.

  • Target distance will be 25 yd or 50 yd or at the discretion of the match director.

USA Production Class

 (USRAB rules apply except as noted)

  • Any Air Gun that COST NO MORE THAN $750.00 MSRP not including scope ( no modification to gun allowed ). 

  • 177, .20 and .22 caliber air gun diabolo style pellets only are allowed.

  • Up to a maximum of 35 foot-pounds of energy.

  • Up to a maximum of 20 pounds total weight including scope.

  • NO requirements on scopes.

  • Shooting may be off bags, a bi-pod or an adjustable front rest with rear bag. NO one piece gun rest.

  • Rifles using electrically actuated or powered components are not allowed.

  • Wind flags or anemometers sensing and transmitting data to a computer device or display are not allowed.

  • Front rests using electrically actuated or power components are not allowed.

  • Scopes transmitting or receiving data from a computer device are not allowed.

  • Scopes may utilize illumination.

  • Tethered tanks are not allowed. NO recharging during course of fire.

  • USARB scoring rules will apply.

  • Target distance will be 25 meters or 50 yards, at the discretion of the match direct.

  • Course of fire is 25 bulls ( 10pts / bull ) per target. Thus, three targets of 25 bulls for a total of 75 bulls per match. ( 750 pts total ).

    

USA Spring Piston Class

(USARB class)

  • Power plants: Spring or Piston. Rifle must be cocked for each shot. When the trigger is pulled, a piston or spring (which is the source of power) is released, thereby compressing a mass of air to launch a pellet. No rifles in this class may store compressed air that is used to fire the pellet.

  • Power restrictions: Any FPE may be used.

  • Rests: Two piece rests are allowed as referenced in Section B8.1-B11 of 2014 WRABF. Exceptions: Bipod use is allowed.

  • 177, .20 and .22 caliber air gun diabolo style pellets only are allowed.

  • Scoring: World Rules apply.

  • Distance: 25 meters or 50 yards, at the discretion of the match director.

  • Match Times: Shall be 20 minutes, or as referenced in WRABF rules Section D3.

  • Maximum Rifle Weight: No weight limit.

  • Stock: 3″ maximum forend width. Rules as specified in Appendix F of the WRABF.

 

WRABF Light Varmint Class

(USRAB rules apply except as noted)

  • 177, .20 and .22 caliber air gun diabolo style pellets only are allowed. 

  • Any rifle having only manually and mechanically operated firing mechanism is allowed.

  • Rifles with electronic triggers are permitted for PAC matches. Note: a score will not be registered due to world scoring rules, given non compliance with WRABF scoring.

  • Gun can not weigh more than 10 1/2 pounds (4.762 kg) inclusive of sight.

  • Factory stock or stocks that meet ‘Stock Clarification’ rules may be used (see APPENDIX F).

  • The action can be either spring or pneumatic; air regulators, barrel weights, harmonic tuners or bullet stabilizers are permitted but will be included in the overall weight of gun.

  • Air regulators can be used as long as it is integral within the air rifle.  

  • The gun's air cylinder can be changed as long as it is provided by the Manufacturer as an option/spare to that model.

  • Any magnification scope may be used.

  • The barrel/ action can be bedded and have the trigger reworked (or replaced).

  • Power to be restricted to 16.27 Joules or 12ft-lbs maximum power.

  • Shooting may be off bags or an adjustable front rest with rear bag. NO one piece gun rest.

  • NO rest may be attached to Air gun.

  • Tethered tanks are not allowed. NO recharging during course of fire.

WRABF Heavy Varmint Class

  • 177, .20 and .22 caliber air gun diabolo style pellets only are allowed.

  • Any rifle having only manually and mechanically operated firing mechanism is allowed.

  • Rifles with electronic triggers are permitted for PAC matches. Note: a score will not be registered due to world scoring rules, given non compliance with WRABF scoring.

  • Weight restriction of 15 lbs is set (6.803kg) (including attachments – scopes, muzzle devices, etc).

  • Factory stock or stocks that meet ‘Stock Clarification’ rules may be used (see APPENDIX F).

  • Any manual modification may be made to the rifle and any magnification scope may be used.

  • Air regulators can be used as long as it is integral within the air rifle.

  • Muzzle brakes, muzzle flips, barrel weights or Harmonic Tuners are permitted.

  • Maximum power is limited to 27.12 Joules or 20ft-lbs.

  • Shooting may be off bags or an adjustable front rest with rear bag. NO one piece gun rest.

  • NO rest may be attached to Air gun.

  • Tethered tanks are not allowed. NO recharging during course of fire.

100yd and 75yd BENCHREST:

​

This is a Phoenix Air Gun Club Benchrest specific competition.

​

100yd  Precision Class

The spirit of this class is the pursuit of ultimate precision at the target.

 

  • Calibers:         Up to 30 cal allowed.

  • Projectile:       Diablo style or Slugs maybe used in 75yd and 100yd matches consistent with production availability.  

  • Power Level:  Any FPE.(Foot-lbs-energy)

  • Weight:           No limit on weight.

  • Rests:             Bags, One or two piece front and rear adjustable rest allowed. Bipod allowed. Rail type rifles allowed. 

  • Targets:          100 yd. Practice targets can be printed from this website under tab " TARGETS '.

  • Scoring:          INWARD scoring. 5 shots per bull (Ten bulls on each target).  Normal Event is shot with one match, for a total of 50 shots. 

  • Time:              40 minutes per match. 

  • Refill of air:    Proper Tethering permitted ( Approved by MD). Shooters may refill during match as many times as necessary.

 

100yd Hunter Class

The spirit of this class is to simulate the rifle and equipment you would take on a hunt.

 

  • Calibers:          Up to 30 Cal allowed.

  • Projectile:       Diablo style or Slugs maybe used in 75yd and 100yd matches consistent with production availability.  

  • Power Level:   Any FPE.(Foot-lbs-energy)

  • Weight:            Max 20 lbs including scope. 

  • Rests:              Sand fill bags and bi-pods allowed, NO metal adjustable front or rear rest, One-piece not allowed.  (Again to simulate what                               you would use on a hunt).  Rail type rifle not permitted.

  • Targets:           100yd ( says  meter ) Practice targets can be printed from this website under tab " TARGETS '.

  • Scoring:           INWARD scoring. 5 shots per bull (Ten bulls on each target).  Normal Event is shot with one match, for a total of 50 shots. 

  • Time:               40 minutes per match. 

  • Refill of air:     Proper Tethering allowed ( Approved by MD ). Shooters may refill as many times as necessary.

75yd UNLIMITED Class

The spirit of this class is the pursuit of ultimate precision at the target.

 

  • Calibers:         Up to 30 cal allowed.

  • Projectile:       Diablo style pellets and slugs. Consistent with production availability. 

  • Power Level:  Any FPE.(ft-lb energy)

  • Weight:           Any.

  • Rests:             Bags, One or two piece front and rear adjustable rest allowed. Bipod allowed. Rail type rifles NOT allowed. 

  • Targets:          75yd Practice targets can be printed from this website under tab " TARGETS '. 

  • Scoring:          INWARD scoring. 4 shots per bull (16 bulls on each target).  Normal Event is shot with one target, for a total of 64 shots. 

  • Time:              40 minutes per match. 

  • Refill of air:    Proper Tethering permitted ( Approved by MD ). Shooters may refill during match as many times as necessary.

  • Shooters may request to shoot in any class listed above.

  • All rules are subject to revision at any time.

Official Benchrest Glossary:

 

Class: 

The Rifle category (Open, Heavy Varmint, light Varmint, Production and Springer... see above)

 

Bulls: 

The concentric rings that are shot within a box, with scores ranging from 4 to 10 points each. One shot per bull. See WRAFB rule book above.

 

25yd and 50yd Target: 

One target scorecard contains 25 individual Bulls. 

 

Round ( match )  : 

Time it takes to shoot one Target with 25 shots.  Lasting 20 minutes.  The total number of rounds during a match: usually three.

 

Relay: 

Each session of 40 or less, shooting Matches. There may be more than one Relay per Match if there are more than 40 shooters online. 

 

Event: 

The day's whole shoot.

 

 

So, say if we have 20 shooters. The first group of 11 shooters will be called Relay #1, they would shoot their first Match. Each Match shoots one Target (of 25 bulls/shots).   Then the second group of 9 or so shooters would be in Relay #2, shooting their first Match.  After that, the First Relay comes back and shoots their second Match. Etc. etc. 

 

Commands and General Rotation at Phoenix Airgun Benchrest Events:

Set up of your rifle is only allowed during a HOT Line.  This is denoted by both verbal commands and the Red indicator flag located in the middle of the firing line of the range. 

Prior to the first match of the day, hot (15 min) and cold lines (approx.10 min) will alternate until the start. This accommodates for arrivals, equipment set-up, and practice. 

 

1).Before the beginning of the match target distribution to shooters is given out and a brief safety meeting is conducted. After the meeting all shooters should return to their benches.

​

2) If the range is hot then at the appropriate time initiate the beginning of the match by announcing: "ONE MINUTE WARNING TO MAKE THE FIRING LINE COLD".

​

3) At the end of 1 minute and Upon verification that the range is safe ( all shooters off the range ), the Match Director will announce "SHOOTERS, MAKE ALL ACTIONS OPEN AND SAFETY DEVICES IN PLACE THEN STEP AWAY FROM YOUR BENCHES BEHIND THE SHOOTING LINE."  (Upon verification everyone is behind the yellow line ) announce: “THE FIRING LINE IS COLD ”. The Red flag moved inward. Then announce: "SHOOTERS YOU MAY GO FORWARD AND PLACE YOUR TARGETS". 

​

4) After shooters return from the range and all are behind the yellow line  and upon verification that the range is safe, the Match Director will make the firing line hotThe RED flag is moved outward and announce " THE FIREING LINE IS HOT" then announceSHOOTERS, TO YOUR BENCHES YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES TO AIR UP YOUR RIFLE AND MAKE READY, DO NOT LOAD YOUR RIFLE UNTIL AFTER THE COMMENCE FIRE."          

5.) After the designated time, announce:  “ANY SHOOTERS ON THE LEFT NOT READY, RAISE YOUR HAND", if OK, announce “ANY SHOOTERS ON THE RIGHT NOT READY, RAISE YOUR HAND” . (Anyone not ready is granted only 3 minutes to resolve their issue.) If ok announce: " THE FIREING LINE IS READY" THEN START THE RECORDING

6.) After the cease fire shooters listing to the recording should make their rifles safe and step behind the yellow line. (Upon verification everyone is behind the yellow line ) The Red flag is moved inward. Then announce: “THE FIRING LINE IS COLD, SHOOTERS YOU MAY GO FORWARD AND PLACE YOUR TARGETS". ( Be sure to tell them where to bring their retrieved targets) 

 

7)  For Rounds 2 and 3 repeat steps 4 & 5.

​

8) After the 3rd target or last round keep the firing line hot allowing the shooters to clear their benches and remain behind the yellow line. Then make the line cold following proper protocols. ( Remind shooters to remain for the score results and awards ) Then let shooters go forward and put equipment away and retrieve their flags.

​

9.) Hand out awards etc.
